Local Tidewater Virginia Weekend Brew Events



Fri-Mon, Oct 24-27 - Beer, Bratwurst & Boats at Homearama 2014, The Waterfront at Parkside, 2 - 5:00 pm daily, Suffolk. Celebrate the spirit of Oktoberfest and sample beers brewed by four local breweries: O’Connor Brewing Company, Smartmouth Brewing Company, St. George Brewing Company and AleWerks Brewing Company. Concessions will have bratwurst, sauerkraut and soft pretzels for sale. On Saturday and Sunday, Colonial Seaport Foundation will provide living history, colonial musicians and cannon fire. Children can attend “Scalawag School for Aspiring Pirates” held twice each day. Modern power boats will be on display from Bill’s Marina and Centerville Waterway Marina.
Fri, Oct 24 - Food Truck Friday at St Georges Brewery, 4:30- 8:00 pm, 204 Challenger Way, Hampton. Featuring “Stuft not your average street food”. There is nothing better that starting your weekend off with food trucks and beer. It’s a match made in heaven (or Hampton if you’re a local)!
Fri, Oct 24 - Inaugural “Fall Beer Fest” by The Sertoma Club of Norfolk, at O’Connor Brewing Co., 6:00 - 10:00 pm, 24st, Norfolk. This event supports local charities and organizations throughout Hampton Roads! Tickets are limited and include the free flowing of O’Connor Brewery’s best craft beers! This event includes live entertainment by Borderline Crazy!! Donation in advance is $35 ($37 on line and placed on will call) per person. Come out and support the local community while enjoying great music and awesome craft beer!!! Fri, Oct 24 - Cask Extravaganza with O’Connor Brewing Company, Lynnhaven Pub, 7:00 pm, 2236 W. Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach. On draft: Li’l SIPA, Wet Hop ale, Punkelweisse, Pecan Porter, Bells Beach, S Turns. Cask line up: El Guapo w/ Lychee, Green Can w/ Soursop, Pecan Porter w/ Scotch soaked wood chips, Pecan Porter w/ coffee and cinnamon, Irish Stout w/ coffee and peanut butter.
Sat, Oct 25 - 2014 Backyard Sports Club Battle of the Beers, hosted by Beach Ambassadors at Tapped Gastropub, 1 - 6:00 pm, Hilltop East, Laskin Rd, Virginia Beach. This event is ONE OF A KIND. It is the only craft beer event that pits ONLY Hampton Roads-based breweries against each other to see who has the best brews! Ticket holders will be treated to an afternoon of the best Hampton Roads craft breweries, as they compete in two categories, best IPA and best Seasonal. Everyone will vote on each category while sampling all beers and enjoying delicious food provided by Tapped Gastropub! Live music from Gridlock 64, cornhole games, raffle prizes, and professional photography will also be on tap for everyone!! Oh yeah, the best thing about it this event, IT’S ALL FOR CHARITY!!! Seventy Five percent of the proceeds will go directly to St. Mary’s Home in Norfolk. The other twenty five percent will go to the charities of the winning brewers. Let’s see if the other breweries can unseat last year’s champion Young Veterans Brewing Company!!
Sat, Oct 25 - Beach Brewing Company’s 4th Anniversary BASH! 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Taylor Farm Rd, Virginia Beach. There will be NEW RELEASES, including our 4th Anniversary beer - ‘Harbinger’ Bourbon Barrel Aged American Strong Ale! You can expect other barrel aged beers to be tapped as well, along with other newly minted brews. There’ll be 3 food trucks: Bro’s Fish Tacos LLC, No Brick Grill, Just Cupcakes; 3 food trucks, Bounce house and trick-or-treat goodie bags for the kids, Live music, Costume contest with swag bag for the winner. Come out and help us celebrate and incredible 4 years of brewing in Virginia Beach!
Sat/Sun, Oct 25/26 - 1st Annual Ghentoberfest in the heart of the beautiful historic Ghent district, 2 - 6:00 pm, Norfolk. A Craft Beer Festival featuring 30 Craft Breweries with over 75 different Craft Beers. Come enjoy an afternoon of good music by local musicians, good food from local food trucks, and (of course) good beer from local breweries. General Admission tickets include: Beer Tastings, Tasting Glass, Great music by local artists.
Sun, Oct 26 - Dogtoberfest, hosted by Friends of the Norfolk Animal Care Center, O’Connor Brewing Co., 1 to 5:00 pm, 211 W. 24th Street, Norfolk. A fundraising Sunday afternoon of barks and brew in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Dog month. Man’s best friend is welcome as long as he or she is leashed and dog friendly. Tickets are $20 ($25 at the door) and patrons will get a custom Dogtoberfest beer glass, one free beer and lunch. Dog owners will get a chance to strut their mutt in a costume contest during the event. The winning dog will reign as “Toptober-Dog” for a full year and will be featured as the “cover dog” for Dogtoberfest 2015. Sun, Oct 26 - The Last ‘Vet Noise’ of 2014, Young Veteran’s Brewing Co., 15 - 1900 hours (3 - 7 pm), 2505 Horse Pasture Rd, Virginia Beach. YVBC and HR Military Relocation Team are hosting this event for ‘Dogs on Deployment’! Being that YVBC has always been “dog friendly” we thought it only proper to host this charity. Come out for a day of beer, food trucks, fundraisers, live music, cornhole and BRING YOUR DOG!! There will be a pooches on parade costume contest. If your dog is well behaved and socialized they are more than welcome! Please use your good judgment!
