Wednesday March 5: Firkin Night - Firkin – Murphy’s Law Amber Ale with toasted hazelnuts.
Firkin Ales are special cask-conditioned beer. Cask Ale, or Real Ale as it is sometimes called, is beer which has not been filtered or pasteurized; it is “Alive.” The beer is transferred straight from the fermenter into the cask along with some priming sugar. The yeast consumes the sugars to produce carbonation and complex flavors. The cask we are using is called a firkin and holds 10.79 gallons of beer.
